Today we’d like to introduce you to Seda Allen.
Seda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The beginning of my journey started when I arrived in Texas and encountered mosquitos for the first time. I had an immediate allergic reaction to the bites and tried every natural, over the counter, and even prescription medication available to get relief, but to no avail. Forced to take this into my own hands, I pulled from my Turkish shamanic upbringing combined with additional research and created my first batch of NoMo mosquito after bite lotion. The result was instant relief. This accomplishment stirred something in me and made me want to learn so much more about skin care and natural healing. I decided to take courses in skin care and received my certification which helped me build a solid foundation to grow my passion for creating more diverse skin solutions. It is my belief that mother nature has already provided everything we need right here on earth and my goal is to combine the correct organic ingredients to bring relief and create beautiful skin.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Initially, I created NoMo lotions for family and friends. I really had no idea it would turn into a business in the beginning. I just wanted to help people that had different skin issues. As I started handing out samples to co-workers, friend and family I received an overwhelming positive response. I decided to create a business plan in 2017 and start to collect data and feedback` from everyone I sent samples to. I did market research and spent at least 2 years perfecting my products, website and marketing materials. My goal was to fully launch in 2019. As we all know, Covid hit and most definitely provided challenges.
One main one was all the market research I did completely shifted and nothing was as I had predicted pre-Covid. Basically, buyers spending habits and priorities changed. Rolling with this, we decided to start on a much smaller scale and luckily farmer’s markets were still open during this time. We began in a few Austin markets and slowly built a client base week after week. We started to see real repeat customers after 3 months and began building a growing client list to market to. Our website traffic has tripled over the past 4 months. Honestly all we know about running this business has been during the pandemic and our expectations have already been exceeded so we just can’t wait to see what running this business post Covid will be like. We are super excited.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have worked in the hospitality industry in Europe for most of my life. My passion is customer service first and foremost. I love people and having meaningful conversations. Taking this skill into my business has been key, The customer is my main focus and bringing skin solutions to their problems is my main objective. Hamsa Heal specializes in skin care. We bring all natural, organic solutions from basic ant and mosquito after-bite lotions to more complex issues such as acne, psoriasis, eczema and anti-aging/anti-wrinkle solutions. Our approach is unique as we use no chemicals, cortisone, steroids nuts or preservatives in our products. Our customers never need to worry if what they are putting on their skin is safe. Everything is from the earth, organic and vegan. What makes us proud is when our customers tell us that we have helped them be able to enjoy their skin again. For example, we had a customer with such severe acne that shaving his face was something he dreaded before using our NoMo acne lotion. Now, his skin is clear and he can shave without even giving it a second thought. Those types of stories are what we are most proud of.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We learned that people in general are still trying to make their lives as normal as they can under the circumstances. We might not be experiencing the same volume of customers as we would without the pandemic but the customers we have interactions with seem as though they are very willing to help the smaller local businesses. We have learned to appreciate customers so much more during these trying times as so many are surviving with less, yet they are still willing to support small businesses such as ours.
